A little about me.
As you can see, I am active and love the outdoors, I enjoy bush walking, travel, which I do every opportunity and my photography is a major part of life. I started shooting weddings around 30+ years ago. I have always loved to create art, the fine art landscape and portrait. I love what I do and couldn't do anything else, but it's about you and providing the absolute best in photographic art so I thought I would give you my "why". Why I got into and enjoy this profession so much.
What drew me to photography?
I have loved photography for as long as I can remember, going back to my early teens when I got my first "real" camera. It was so cool, interchangeable lenses and off camera flash (with a long cord of course). Back then I had no idea what I was doing, so I just played.
A number of years and a number of cameras later I was asked to shoot my first wedding. I remember thinking yeah, how hard can it be? Looking back, how wrong I was.
Later, I decided to undertake tertiary education in photography and art. It was really at that point I discovered my true passion: Black and White. I'd always played around on the edges of this medium, set up a make shift darkroom but never processed my own film. At Uni all that changed. I learnt different processing techniques, how to make a fine art print in the darkroom, lighting and was exposed to a wide variety of photographer's works such as: Weston, Atget and Stieglitz to name a few.
Now, where is all this leading? Creative landscape and portrait photography. Why do I do it?
Easy, I love it. I enjoy everything about photography. Colour or Black & White. I think Black and White has emotion and engagement, lets the viewer look into the photograph without the distractions colour can have. Don't get me wrong, colour certainly has its place in the art world (where would we be without it), all paintings are in colour. In the photography world however, we have a choice, and for you, this means you get the best in photographic art. What I feel is honest, real and engaging.
Finding the beauty in the everyday.
Send me a message, I'd love to hear from you, it all begins with a conversation.
